To configure report manager to be on a remote server separate from report services there are other requirements to allow for the two-hop authentication needed by this set-up:
Server Principal Names (SPNs) set for the domain accounts that own the Reporting services for both the report manager server and the SSRS server.
These logins also need to be trusted for delegation. (for the domain login under the delegation tab select 'trust this user for delegation to any service (Kerberos only')
