Microsoft has now built the adprep functions in the Windows Server 2012 Server Role Wizard so it is not required to have the media and run it before hand. It can still be done manually, but a Windows Server 2012 member server, as part of its domain controller promotion using the Server Role Wizard can also update the schema through the Schema Master.
No more media required when using Windows Server 2012.
