You can adjust the timeout period in the registry, by adding the DWORD registry key HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\services\VSS\Settings\IdleTimeout, and setting it to the number of seconds you want VSS to wait in an idle state before shutting down. Default is 180 seconds.If you suspect that VSS shutting down is causing you problems, try setting it to 0xffffffff, which would be about 136 years. See if that helps you any.
